Divergence
A neurodivergent board game night. Come find your people, no pressure, all welcome.
Neurodivergence can be a lonely experience, especially in a city like Dubai where everyone's passing through and finding your people is hard.
This is a relaxed board game night for neurodivergent adults: ADHD, Asperger's, AuDHD, or self-identifying, or just pretty sure you're wired a bit differently. If that's your vibe then you're welcome, diagnosis not required.
It's built around the games, so you don't have to force small talk. Play if you want to, watch if you'd rather, leave when you need to. No masking required.
How it works
- ๐ชArrive from 6:30pm. No pressure to mingle, grab a drink, find a table, settle in at your own pace.
- ๐ฒWe play across a few tables, easy co-op games and quieter strategy ones. New to board games is completely fine; we'll pick things up together and there's always someone happy to explain.
- ๐ขTraffic-light badges let you control how much you interact. Pick your colour when you arrive, change it whenever. More on that below.
- ๐ซงNo pressure to talk beyond the game. You're welcome to just watch a table if that's your speed.
- ๐We wrap at 9pm. Clear start, clear finish, no one's ever trapped.
The badges
Wear how you're feeling, so nobody has to guess. All three are completely welcome, every week.
Green
Come say hi, I'm happy to chat.
Amber
I'll chat if you approach gently.
Red
Here and happy, but not up for chat right now.
Where & when
Tired of loud rooms
I started this because I got tired of loud rooms.
So many "social" nights here are about being seen, being on, performing a version of yourself over music you can't talk over. I'd leave more drained than when I arrived, and no closer to knowing anyone.
I wanted the opposite. A calm room, a game on the table, and the chance to make a real connection without the performance. Somewhere you don't have to be "on" to belong. If you've felt that too, this is for you. Honestly, I'm building it as much for me as for anyone.
Mo, your hostWhat's next
Night one is board games. The plan is for this to grow into a proper little community, shaped by whoever shows up. A few things we might roll in:
More game nights
The regular Wednesday anchor: same calm format, familiar faces.
Infodump nights
A few minutes each for anyone who wants to share something they're deep into, with a friendly timer so no one has to read the room.
Quieter co-op sessions
Lower-stimulation nights leaning on co-op games, where it's everyone versus the game.
Your ideas
Got a format you'd love? Tell me. This grows with the people in it.
Nothing's set in stone. We'll try things, keep what works, and let the rest go.
Come find your people
This is the first one of these I've run, so we'll figure out the rhythm together. Come as you are, and help shape what this becomes.
